An apprise note on soil conservation activities in Gajapati District

          The soil conservation Sub – Division, Parlakhemundi is functioning with 7 blocks with the Headquarter at Parlakhemundi and deals with departmental and Non – Departmental Schemes.

1. Departmental Scheme:

                   Under Departmental Scheme one S.C.D.C at Chandiput (Akili) of Mohana Block having an area of 48.65 hect. Departmental Cashew Plantation over 143.60 hect.  At Gosani and Rayagada Block Coffee and Pepper plantation over 28.200 hect., of R.Udayagiri and Mohana Block are under maintenance.

2. N.W.D.P.R.A. Scheme:

                   4 Nos. watersheds has been taken up under this Scheme.  These watershed are under the execution, through “Bhumi Panchayat” in Kasinagar, Gumma, Rayagada and Mohana Block.  During 2006 – 07 Rs. 20,14102 Lakhs have been received for execution of works.  Out of which a sum of Rs. 9.05525 Lakhs have been utilized during this financial year.  In addition to this 4 Nos. Micro Watershed have been identified in XI Plan covering an area of 1923.340 hect., in Rayagada, Nuagada, R.Udayagiri and Mohana Block.  

3. I.W.D.P. Scheme:

                   10 Nos. of Micro Watershed have been taken up in Nuagada Block during this year covering 30 Nos. villages with a total treatable area of 5184 hects.  So for this office has received an amount of Rs. 10.0248 Lakhs relating P.I.A. fund. Out of which an amount of Rs. 3.03632 Lakhs has been spent so far.  In committee fund an amount of Rs. 25.58787 Lakhs has been provide to 8 Nos. of committees.  Steps are being taken to utilize the amount as quick as possible. 

4. R.S.V.Y.: 

                   5 (Five) Nos. of projects so far allotted under this Scheme over an amount of Rs. 30.359 Lakhs out of which an amount of Rs. 9.46101 Lakhs has been spent so far.  Steps are being taken to utilize the balance funds as quick as possible.

NATIONAL WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT PROJECT FOR RAINFED AREAS 

The broad objective of the Scheme is: 

  1. Conservation, Development and Management of Natural Resources in a sustainable manner;
  1. To enhance the agricultural productivity;
  1. Restoration of ecological Balance in the degraded and fragile rainfed ecosystem through appropriate mix of trees, shrubs and grasses;
  1. Reduction in regional disparity between irrigated and rainfed areas;
  1. Creation of sustained employment opportunities for rural community including landless;
  1. The works are being executed through committee with peoples participation.

It is almost a centrally sponsored scheme with 90% Govt. of India share and 10% State Share. In this district the scheme is being operated since 1989 – 90.  In the Xth Plan period 4 (Four) numbers of Micro Watersheds in Kashinagr, Rayagada, Mohana and Gumma being taken covering a total treatable area over 1804.088 hectre with total out lay of 81.18 Lakhs.  Out of which 14.06 Lakhs is likely to be carried over to 2001 – 2008.  In XIth plan period another 4 (Four) numbers of Micro Watershed are selected in Rayagada, R.Udayagiri Mohana and Nuagada Block, with total treatable area of 1923.34 hect.  And with total out lay of 86.55 Lakhs.  The out lay for the year 2001 – 2008 is of Rs. 12.98 Lakhs.
